CAL-EDA President's Message......

January 2012

Hello Everyone!

With another year of holidays in the books, I hope everyone had a wonderful 2011! I know everyone hopes the next year is better than the last and we at CAL-EDA are working hard to make 2012 even better than years past.

I would like to share with you some things that the Executive Board has been working on and will be working on for the 2012 year.

First, we are excited about the addition of three new Executive Board Members. Welcome Christina Dravis from Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center, Heather Grives from San Francisco Emergency Management and Chasity Duxbury from Tracy Police Department. Christina and Heather will be serving as Northern Regional Directors and Chasity will be serving as the Association Treasurer. If you are interested in serving as a board member, please send me an email.

In 2011, your Executive Board decided to dress up the old logo a bit. We were able to take the old CAL-EDA logo and integrate it into the new logo. We will eventually make the logo into a challenge coin and make it available to our members. We have already made the logo available on t-shirts and other items that can be purchased through our store.

That thing called “Bad Economy” keeps rearing its ugly head. With budget cuts and layoffs, departments are finding it nearly impossible to send employees to training. CAL-EDA is also feeling the pinch in this bad economy. So we can continue to carry out one of the main portions of the Associations mission to provide innovative and professional training at a low cost, we have decided to pursue becoming a non-profit association. We started the process in early September but, have found it slow going as we weave through all the red tape involved. We are also working with POST to become “POST Certified Presenters”. The board will keep pushing forward to complete both of these tasks and we hope to have them implemented in the near future.

The First Annual CAL-EDA cruise to Mexico was a huge success! Over 40 people attended and had a wonderful time. The Second annual CAL-EDA cruise is fast approaching and we are looking forward to a relaxing fun time. The A’s Vs. Giants game and tailgate party, which was attended by nearly 50 people, was also a huge success. We have been in contact with the A’s to schedule another game and tailgate party with the A’s and Giants. (Tickets will be limited.) Please check the CAL-EDA website calendar and Facebook page for updates on training, networking events, fundraisers and Public Safety Dispatchers in the news. Public Safety Dispatchers have been doing some great things all over California.

I would like to thank each member of your Executive Board for the time they dedicate to the Association. Each of them dedicates countless hours with the only compensation being the pride in advancing the CAL-EDA mission and the profession of Public Safety Dispatching.

We can’t do this without our members. If you have any ideas, suggestions for classes, networking events or there is anything you think the board can improve upon, please feel free to contact any member of the board with an email or a phone call. We look forward to your ideas!!! With your help, we can make 2012 a fantastic year!!!

Thank you for your continued commitment to the Public Safety Dispatch Profession. You are the true first responders and are all truly Heroes!!!

Duaine Hoerth. CAL-EDA President
