CAL-EDA President's Message......

Duaine Hoerth

June, 2011

Hello everybody!!

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the resignation of CAL-EDA President Kurt Anderson.  We wish Kurt the best in his future endeavors.  (Click Here for Kurt’s message to the membership)

You may be asking yourself what will happen now.  The CAL-EDA Board will continue to fulfill the mission of CAL-EDA to provide innovative and professional training, networking opportunities and to act as advocates for all California Emergency Dispatchers.

According to the CAL-EDA bylaws, I, as the Vice President will take over as President for the remainder of the President's term.   I know I have some huge shoes to fill and I will work hard to fill those shoes for you.

We are excited to present your newest board members, Josh Goldmark from West-Comm, Toni Brown from Indio PD and Angela Haddad from Brea PD.  We would also like to welcome Jamie Zeller back to the board.  We will be making adjustments and working hard to fill other vacant board positions.  If you are interested in serving as a board member, please send me an email

Congratulations California Highway Patrol Dispatchers on your new membership to POST!!  We look forward to meeting up with you and hope you can attend upcoming training and networking events we are planning.

Earlier in the year, we sent out surveys requesting information about training and events.  We received some excellent information.  Thank you for taking the time to complete the surveys!  One important bit of information we received was that because of budget issues, most departments are only sending people to training that is certified through POST.    We have been working and will continue to work with POST to try and certify classes we are preparing.

Unfortunately, also because of budget issues, we were forced to cancel the CAL-EDA training conference we were planning for 2011.   This was a big disappointment however, at the end of June most of your board members will be attending a planned retreat to work on CAL-EDA planned functions.  This will include planning for a 2012 conference.  We will also be setting dates later in 2011 for training that we have been working on putting together and future networking functions.

Probably one of our biggest networking events is the annual CAL-EDA cruise.  The first annual CAL-EDA cruise was attended by over 40 dispatchers and was a huge success.  Those that attended had a BLAST!!  The second annual cruise has been scheduled for January 2012.  If you are planning to attend, secure your cabin early as the price increases as the cruise gets closer.  We look forward to seeing you at this fun and exciting event.

On behalf of the board, I want to thank you for your patience as we work hard to continue our mission of providing innovative and professional training, networking opportunities and acting as advocates for all California Emergency Dispatchers.

We can’t do this without you, the members of CAL-EDA.  This is your association.  If you have any ideas, suggestions for classes, networking events or anything you think we can improve upon, please feel free to drop us an email or a phone call.  We look forward to hearing from you!!!

Thank you for your time and commitment to our profession.  You are all truly heroes!!!
